The jeweller kept his business on the main road of the town. It was a bustling place, most days, and he was kept busy. Now it was the afternoon and he was removing his merchandise, the jewels, and watches, and sparkling pearls, in preparation to close up shop and go home. He was hunched over a glass display, polishing it over with a cloth, when he heard the familiar tinkle of the doorbell. A customer. He turned, smiling, to greet this latecomer.
